This village in India has no locks and doors!

Imagine having lots of jewelry and cash in your house,
and then realizing that you accidentally left the doors of your house unlocked!

Or

Imagine owning a shop that is left unlocked!

It freaks you out, right?

Now, what if I told you that there is a village in India with no locks and doors?

Okay, I don’t know if this question has shown up in your mind yet:

ARE THE BANKS LOCKLESS TOO????

The answer is "yes."

Shani Shingnapur is a place in India's Maharashtra state.

People living here don’t feel the need for security because of their undying faith in Lord Shani, who is considered the guardian of the village.

This story started 300 years ago when a heavy black slab of rock was found washed up on the shores of a river.

When locals touched this rock with a stick, it started bleeding. Everyone was shocked and didn't have any clue.

Until Lord Shani appeared in the dream of the village leader and revealed that the rock was his own idol.

This led to the installation of that huge rock in the town and also to the decision of the villagers to discard all doors and locks.

The famous Shani temple.

They didn't need them anymore, not with the Lord to watch over them!

Because of this strange history, this place welcomes around 40,000 visitors each day.

BUT DOES LORD SHANI REALLY PROTECT THE VILLAGERS???

It seems like he really does!
The police station which was only opened in Sept 2015, has not received a single complaint from the villagers.

It’s the fear of Lord Shani that stops the villagers from committing a crime. It’s the trust in Lord Shani that makes villagers feel safe and believe in each other.

Shani Shingnapur stands as an example of how much our world can be peaceful if we really believe in each other.
